Cy's Cafe

Last weekend Nate and I had the pleasure of hanging out at my parent's place near Dwight, NE. One thing that all the local's do is have coffee at Cy's Cafe, where you can still purchase a cup of coffee for a quarter. Of course my dad is a frequent flyer at Cy's; mom, not so much. So Sunday morning, Nate, myself, and dad decided to go into town to see what all the locals were up to. We sat down at a table filled with about 4 older gentleman, with a few lovely ladies seated at a bar area. Conversation pretty much went like this: do you know Kenny so and so? Oh yeah, that must be so and so's boy. And what ever happened to this person and so forth. After a while of determining who knows who and who is related to who, the conversation of course turned to the weather and rain. "I hear 40% chance of rain." "No, I think it's 30% of rain", says another gentleman. Do you think that 10% really makes a difference? Probably not. Then of course we moved on to sports - basketball, soccer, baseball. During this conversation, a couple walked in the door. The man went straight to the "guys" table, and the wife went straight to the bar. At this point, I finally realized that I was at the wrong table. I said so, and all the guys just chuckled and said that I was welcome to sit with them. This suspicion was confirmed a few minutes later when an elderly lady came up to me and said that I was brave to be sitting with these guys and more than welcome to come sit with the ladies. :).

I just loved this little cafe and thought it was hilarious. Dwight seems to really be a nice community that cares about all of its residents and everyone is watching everyone else's back. A few cups of coffee, a homemade long John, and an hour later, we had our share of Cy's Cafe and the local news. Later, I made sure to inform mom that if she ever goes with dad to Cy's that she has to sit at the bar with the other wives.
