Pinterest Project #3

I've been thinking about making my own laundry soap for a long time. I always hate buying laundry detergent because I know it's going to make our grocery bill sky rocket (same things goes for paper towels, toilet paper, etc). And I don't buy cheap laundry detergent, that's for sure. I've been using the same laundry detergent for well over 5 years now, no, probably longer. I was also worried about using homemade soap in our new HE washer. So, I did a lot of research,  looked at many recipes and read A LOT of comments on all the websites.

This is the recipe I decided to go with: DIY Laundry Detergent

I chose this recipe because it's not a liquid, which seemed to be less messy. She also seemed to do a lot of research before settling on her particular recipe, so I appreciated that too.

Finished product!

My thoughts:
  • I didn't heed the warnings very well, but make sure you have the windows open or mix it up outside (lots of dust flying, and it's a strong smell)
  • Microwaving the soap makes it a lot easier, in fact, it's super easy
  • Was able to mix it all together fairly quickly
  • I used Fels Naptha because I couldn't find Zote soap
  • It seems to get our clothes clean, but we don't necessarily have grass and mud stains everywhere.
  • I love the smell; it just smells clean. That's the best way I can describe it.
We also recently made a daily shower spray and love that as well :).

  1. That looks similar to our laundry soap too. I love the way it smells too. I'd love to know your recipe for the daily shower spray.
